EDUC 6990: Jobs/Roles In the ECE Community: National/Federal Level

As I focus on my Capstone project and my advocacy role, I researched some national organizations that would support my role as professional educators that advocate for inclusion and support teachers to foster Diversity and Inclusion in their classrooms. The first organization that I chose is, Individual with Disabilities Education Act, IDEA. This organization provides information about the law and policies regarding individuals with diverse abilities and supports families and educators with resources presented in 170 languages, For instance, Spanish and Tagalog ( IDEA, n.d.)

The Second organization of my choice is the U.S. Department of Education. This national organization also provides professionals and families with resources and access to Laws and civil rights, which is essential for families and educators who work with special needs children. Also, the U.S. Department of Education provides access to research and statistics about education. Furthermore, as the organization supports early learning, it publishes a monthly newsletter about early learning initiatives that will benefit every educator ( U.S. Department of Education, n.d.).

As a professional educator who worked closely with the DIR floortime model, supporting children with diverse abilities, especially children with ASD, I chose Perfectum. This national organization provides various professional growth opportunities for educators, such as workshops, classes, and resources to support children with special needs (Profectum, n.d.).

As for researching some job opportunities I studied at my local community, I found a position that intrigued and challenged me at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. The role is of a teacher,  teaching children with severe disabilities. This role's requirements are obtaining a bachelor's degree; however, further needs are obtaining an Educational Specialists Instruction Credential, English Learner Authorization, ELA certificate.

Lastly, as I delve into these organizations, I expanded my knowledge of vital resources to support my early childhood educator role.

  1. Hello Ilana,

I appreciate the U.S. Department of Education because they promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access (U.S. Department of Education, 2018). They provide grants to teachers furthering their education to early learning entities, family and community engagement corporations assisting in Every Student Succeeds Act for the children served.

  2. Ilana,

You have great ideas for a path that will help children find inclusive learning environments. I am also thankful you mentioned Perfectum because I have not heard of this before but is very applicable to the work I currently do! Teaming up with IDEA would not only benefit students you serve but likely provide clear information to families on their rights for equitable education. Thank you for this information!
