EDUC-6164: Final Blog

As I think about working with children and families who come from a diverse background, I hope that they will feel connected and welcome to my classroom’s family. I am passionate and committed to supporting children’s cultural identity and introducing them to diverse cultures sensitively and respectfully (Derman-Sparks, 2010). I want to collaborate with colleagues and interact with a diverse population in my community to learn more about the cultures among us.

My goal for the early childhood field related to diversity, equity, and social justice is to raise awareness for an anti-bias curriculum among each state’s education department. Offering educators professional growth opportunities, raise awareness of anti-bias education and foster understanding of cultural sensitivity in each program. I want that anti-bias education becomes the norm in every classroom, allowing all children to feel valued, respected, and proud of their heritage and who they are.

Also, I would like to thank each of my colleagues for their support by sharing their wisdom, experience, and expertise in our weekly discussion boards. The collaboration allowed me access and awareness of diverse points of view that I highly value.

I wish everyone much luck in the future, and hoping to share the rest of my educational journey with you!

Toda! (Thank you in Hebrew)

Ilana

  4. Hi Ilana,
Thank you for posting insightful perspectives throughout the duration of this and previous courses. I continue to learn from the lens of an early childhood educator that shares the bond of an intense desire to improve the experiences of all young children. There are not many of us out in the world. Keep striving for excellence in our chosen unique path of service.

It is noted, you liked my sign out phrase. It was honest as well as catchy.
I truly have enjoyed reading and responding to your posts.

  5. Hi Ilana,

I love the goal of having an anti-bias classroom! It is so important and life changing to create a classroom environment where every child feels valued and are treated with respect, kindness, love, and overall provided with responsive care. It takes more than providing diverse pictures on the wall, toys, instruments, etc., it also takes a positive view point on all ethnicity in media, at home, at school, all around. It takes all of us to make this change happens. Thank you so much for sharing!
